    A T-shirt is literally a work of art at this East Village shop, which sells men’s exclusive, limited-edition, and imported designs from $50 to $150. Owners Eddy Chai and Paul Birardi sell labels like Obscurity, a line by two artists who make only 50 of each design to avoid overexposure. Shop early and often—stock changes every few weeks. Look for the limited-edition collection from Jason Miller that includes a laser-cut argyle tee. In April, Eddy and Paul are expanding to a second, 2,100-square-foot location on Lafayette Street, where they’ll also sell shoes and jewelry and clothing.

Competition breeds the best. If only one pizzeria existed in New York, of course, there’d be no real winning slice. Thankfully, we’ll never know what that sorry situation tastes like, since pizza—like dance parties, dog runs, and fried chicken—has to evolve upward here.
