Profile
Plagued with severe paranoid schizophrenia, self-taught artist Martín Ramírez (1895–1963) lived out his final years confined to a Northern California mental institution where he created hypnotic drawings and collages of cowboys, trains, and animals; 25 of his later, previously unknown works—a selection of the 120-plus discovered last year in a garage—will be on view at the American Folk Art Museum. Opens October 7.
