Profile
Coming only a month after the opening of the Music Hall of Williamsburg, Terminal 5 caps a sudden burst of growth from Bowery Presents, the owners of Mercury Lounge and Bowery Ballroom. This latest addition to New York's ruling rock-venue empire suggests a step up for both Bowery Presents and the bands that've outgrown its smaller venues. Able to accommodate 3,000 concertgoers, Terminal 5’s three levels—two ultrawide, bar equipped balconies wrap around the groundlings—should offer fantastic sightlines. And, thankfully, the handsome, 40,000-square-foot space emulates places like the Highline or Hammerstein Ballroom rather than former tenant Club Exit. Success may have its price. Casually hip, Park Slope–approved bookings suggest a more sedate, get-home-early-for-the-babysitter vibe. For bruises and spilled beer, you’ll need to head back to the Mercury Lounge.
