Profile
When cold weather hits, outdoor enthusiasts switch from rollerblades to ice skates and head to Central Park. Nestled between massive schist bedrock and rolling hills yet with skyscrapers still in view, this popular rink (now operated by the Trump Organization) continues a legacy that began in the 19th century when skaters first flocked to the area's small lakes and ponds. The winter sport's biggest problem—unpredictable weather and ice conditions—was solved by the namesake family's gift of $600,000 which facilitated the construction of a permanent concrete base for a rink in 1950. Today, an 8,000-square ft. skate house and a heated tent combat any attendant discomfort by keeping athletes warm between spins, glides and leaps. The amenities clearly work: During peak season, several thousand guests pack the 30,800-square foot rink day and night.
Skate RentalSkate rentals are $5, and locker rentals are available for for $3.75 (plus a refundable $6.25 deposit).
Skating Classes
For novice and advanced, children and adult, classes in figure skating and hockey foster dreams of Olympic stardom and Stanley Cup glories.
Special Events
The rink is available for birthday parties, and other private rentals.
Off-Season Attraction
During warmer months, the rink becomes the home of
Victorian Gardens—a family entertainment venue with children's games
and rides like the "Crazy Trolley."
