Profile
You may have to wait a bit for your meal at Brawta, not because there are long lines but because the food is slow-cooked and made-to-order (they promise it won’t take more than half an hour and it usually doesn't). The small café maintains the atmosphere of Jamaica: both festive and relaxed, with Reggae music in the background serenading you. Start with “likkle tings” like bammy (a flatbread made from cassava), or escoveitched (pickled) fillet of red snapper with breadfruit. Particularly sumptuous are the seafood dishes from the “big tings” menu, like whole red snapper or the sweet and spicy salmon in mustard-ginger sauce. Finish it off with “sweet tings” like gizada (a coconut-almond pastry), or the orange cake. Portions are generous and the wait staff is friendly, so you’ll go home feeling full and happy.
Recommended DishesWhole red snapper, $21; salmon in ginger mustard sauce/butter sauce, $21
