Profile
Though their styles may change every season, Longchamp’s luxurious leather purses and casual, colorful nylon totes are constants for jet setters—or merely those navigating through the city in style. In the warm, wood-paneled Madison Avenue store, a well-heeled clientele finds the French designer bags in a variety of shapes and colors—along with a small collection of accessories like belts, scarves, wallets, and day planners. Longchamp recently gave its bag collection a fashionable shot in the arm courtesy of designer Jeremy Scott. Now there’s a massive, three-level Spring Street flagship, complete with a roof deck and a theatrical cascading lobby. Inside, beside the old, conservative Le Pliage bag, a wide range of more up-to-date shapes and designs hang from the ceiling and perch on maple display stands. Look out for the leopard-print Rodeo bag or the equally hip brown leather Idole Vintage satchel. The classic line of ladies’ handbags, Veau Foulonné, is known for its excellent craftsmanship, traditional silhouettes and subdued shades of fine grain leather. The men’s line, Cavalier, offers handsome styles and a variety of logo-embossed shoulder bags, laptop cases, or even bowling bags in aged cowhide leather for a style, but rugged, masculine look.
