Profile

This venue is closed.

This warehouse in the diurnal Garment District, formerly Club Shelter, offers four-levels plus a sprawling roof-deck for a scene which changes dramatically depending on the night. Mistress Formika and her former Opaline cohorts oversee Friday’s wildly gay-popular Area 10018 during which go-go acts and glam rock performances light up a basement of sparkly silver walls with a chicken-wired drink area. On the upper floors, which include a boxy candy-striped ground-floor nook and a roped-off lounge one floor above, the thump and resultant bump comes from rock, hip-hop and house. Saturdays, veteran DJ Timmy Regisford helms the Phazon sound system for a soulful party on the stripped-down third and fourth levels where, despite early-bird specials, dancing often trumps drinking. (That same night, you’ll find Sapphic fever in full flush in the basement at the lesbian-dominated Lover Girl NYC with DJ Mary Mac.) Monthly trannie parties are hosted by Allanah Starr and her extended family. On nights when the scene goes through the roof, remember you can pick up some action there, too.

Extra

During the summer, East Village institution Juicy Lucy blends fresh fruit on the roof while amateur grillers dole out hot dogs and burgers.
