Yang’s dresses can be stunning (a reembroidered, raw organza, mermaid cut) or sweet (a strapless design with a tulle neckline). She describes her work as structured without being too heavy. Made-to-order or custom gowns can be had for $2,500, but samples start at $500. Check out the East Village sample store (328 E. 9th St., nr. Second Ave.) before heading to the Tribeca flagship location. Alterations not included.

VeKa

Owners Ksenia and Jana stock their intimate Nolita boutique with American and European designers like Palazzo and Suzan Ermann, whose unconventional sensibilities will please brides with an edgy fashion aesthetic in mind. Prices range from $2,500 to $5,000. Alterations not included. By appointment only.

Vera Wang

The grande dame of bridal offers gowns for every kind of bride (from $3,000). Silhouettes range from simple A-lines to showstoppers with layered, ruffled, sweeping skirts (yes, sometimes all in one dress). Made-to-order dresses are also available. Sample sales are usually in June and December; open to the public. Alterations not included. Tailoring is done off-site.

Wedding Atelier

This shop carries top bridal designers like Christian Lacroix and Alvina Valenta, in addition to traditional Chinese wedding dresses. The brightly-lit space is beset with mirrors, and its staff can customize a dress in ten weeks or less. Prices start at $1,800. By appointment only.

The Wedding Salon

The Wedding Salon boasts that it’s the only place on Long Island where you can find designs by Valentino and Vera Wang. For bride’s looking for something specific, the store hosts several trunk shows throughout the year where shoppers can preview collections by Kenneth Pool, Priscilla, and Anne Barge.
