HOTELS

The Bowery Hotel

335 Bowery, at 3rd St.; 212-505-9100; theboweryhotel.com

Although the building is new, the 10,000-square-foot second-floor, space feels comfortably lived-in. A wedding here will be chic (guests enter via private entrance, which is guarded by a personal bouncer), but it will also be a bit of a hassle. Certain pieces of furniture (like the pool table) can’t be removed. The Bowery can’t be rented more than six months in advance, so it’s perfect for those working with a shorter time frame. No outside catering. Prices upon request.

The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel

35 East 76th St., nr. Madison Ave.; 212-744-1600; thecarlyle.com

Famous for its Art Deco style, old-time New York glamour, and A-list clientele, the Carlyle has been a classic since its opening in 1930. Two French-inspired suites—the ambient Versailles and the opulent Trianon—make for elegant weddings. Guests are treated to butlered hors d’oeuvre, a full bar, and a choice of entrées. In fall and winter months, prices range from $215 to $245 per guest.

The Four Seasons Hotel

57 E. 57th St., nr. Park Ave.; 212-758-5700; fourseasons.com

For old-world glamour, this serene, luxurious hotel is tops—which is why it generally books about a year in advance. Guests can mingle on the gorgeous lobby terrace before they are led to any number of great rooms. The biggest, called the Cosmopolitan Suite, holds 165 guests for cocktails and has a clubby, cabaret feel; several smaller rooms can accommodate groups of 50. Catering starts at $275 per person.

Essex House

160 Central Park South, nr. Seventh Ave.; 212-247-0300; jumeirahessexhouse.com

Couples who love the Saint Regis, but want something a little less pricey, should try this renovated Art Deco landmark. The Grand Salon—with mirrored doors and pastoral murals—holds up to 550 people; the more intimate Petite Salon accommodates 150. Packages start at $300 per person and include the whole shebang (bridal suite, groom’s changing room, wedding cake, and a respectable wine list).

Gramercy Park Hotel

2 Lexington Ave., at E. 21st St.; 212-920-3300; gramercyparkhotel.com

Ian Schrager completed this bohemian landmark’s latest transformation in 2006. The sleek Park Room (decorated with red-velvet curtains and Eames chairs), holds 120 guests for a cocktail reception, while the 1,500-square-foot Roof Club Suite (an outdoor Moroccan-themed room), holds 60. Also on the premises are the Wakiya restaurant and the Jade and Rose Bars. Prices upon request.

Hilton New York

1335 Sixth Ave., nr. W. 54th St.; 212-586-7000; newyork.hilton.com

With the largest ballroom in New York City—and three more to boot—the Hilton is the perfect place for a large wedding. This elaborate, impressive, and spacious hotel can accommodate anywhere from 300 to 3,000 guests. The Hilton specializes in kosher weddings. Prices start at $130 per person; packaged deals for hotel guests range from $300 to $400.

Hotel Giraffe

365 Park Ave. S., at 26th St.; 212-685-7700; hotelgiraffe.com

Among the hotel’s retro sofas, couples can host their cocktail-party receptions (or even a post-wedding brunch) in the Piano Suite, the Giraffe’s 1,300-square-foot penthouse. The suite has 26-foot barrel-vaulted ceilings and views of Manhattan. By adding the garden, the hotel can accommodate 65 guests (starts from $1,800.)

Intercontinental The Barclay New York

111 E 48th St., nr. Park Ave.; 212-755-5900; intercontinental.com/newyork

For 80 years, the Barclay has specialized in customizing weddings to fit the bride and groom’s vision—from the food to the décor in the 2,500-square-foot, window-lined ballroom overlooking 49th Street. There are seventeen additional spaces, seating ten to 250 guests. Prices start at $165 per person.

New York Marriott Brooklyn

333 Adams St., nr. Willoughby St., Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn; 718-246-7000; marriott.com

There aren’t many hotel spaces in the area, so this newly renovated and expanded site is a best bet for Brooklyn couples. The 18,105-square-foot Grand Ballroom is as flexible as a blank-slate and accommodates up to 1,000 guests; a host of smaller spaces can supplement that number. Catering starts at $110 per person.

The New York Palace Hotel

455 Madison Ave., nr. 50th St.; 212-303-7766; thenewyorkpalace.com

The Palace resides in a 55-story tower. While Triplex 5319 proffers breathtaking views of the Rockefeller Center ice rink, the Madison Room handles larger events beneath two crystal chandeliers, a coiffed ceiling, and Corinthian marble columns. The Grand Courtyard is available in warm-weather months. Prices range from $350 to $1,200 per person, and bridal suites are complimentary.

Omni Berkshire Place

21 E. 52nd St., at Madison Ave.; 212-753-5800; omniberkshireplace.com

This luxury hotel offers three venues—the Juilliard Ballroom, the Carnegie Salon, and the Atrium—that can accommodate 70 to 120 guests. The wedding-reception menu features an impressive array of Italian classics and New American options that ought to satisfy everyone. Prices start at $170 per person.

Since 1929, the Plaza’s neoclassical ballroom has hosted legendary events such as Truman Capote’s “Black & White Ball.” Guests can mingle and marvel at the 4,800-square-foot space’s original chandeliers, mirrors and sconces, while Great Performances—known for using locally-grown organic produce—provides the catering. Cakes are provided by maestros Sylvia Weinstock or Ron Ben-Israel. Prices from $375-$450 per person.

Roosevelt Hotel

45 E. 45th St., at Madison Ave.; 212-661-9600; theroosevelthotel.com

This midtown landmark evokes old-world elegance. The wide array of event spaces ranges from the gold-gilded, chandeliered Grand Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 350 guests, to the smaller Palm Room, which holds 180. Catering is in-house, starting from $185 per guest.

One of Soho’s hotter hotels, 60 Thompson can host an entire wedding, from the ceremony to the reception.
